Recreating the role of the Irish in the American Civil War 1861-65

Mission Statement

The Minstrel Boys are founded on the belief that the highest and most sincere form of tribute that can be paid to any person, group or historical era is the creation of a thoughtful, respectful, considered, and accurate living history portrayal. Toward that end, the Minstrel Boys are dedicated to honouring the lives and accomplishments of the people of Ireland who left these shores in the 18th and 19th Centuries to help build America, from whichever community they came.  With this philosophy as a guide, and with tribute and thoughtful remembrance as a goal, members of The Minstrel Boys shall:

Participate in battle re-enactments and living history programs.

Participate in historic preservation projects.

Strive to maintain 24 hour authenticity in demeanour, dress, activities and surroundings at all events.

Be dedicated to meeting the highest standards of living history protocol through research and the creation of accurate, respectful, descriptive and educational portrayals and individual and collective living history impressions.

Be willing to explore innovative methods of living history portrayal and set new examples and standards for other living historians to emulate.

Understand the evolutionary process of re-enacting and be both nurturing of new members and committed to the continued evolution of their own individual impressions and that of the whole unit.

Be vigilant for their own safety and that of others.

Always act with respect and courtesy toward their fellow members, other re-enactors and living historians and the general public.

To encourage understanding and goodwill for the traditions of all the people of this island.
